TIM OLSEN AND LAURA JONES | HARPER’S BAZAAR

For Harper’s Bazaar Australia’s May 2017 issue OLSEN Gallery Director Tim Olsen and represented artist Laura Jones visit the home and studio of the internationally acclaimed and prolific artist Brett Whiteley, reflecting on the profound impact the late artist had on each of their lives.

“The day Brett died, it was not just losing someone I had known since I was a small child, a friend of the family. The world lost someone who had a real vision.”

“Whiteley’s inflection was one of the first to strike a note for me in my most formative years. I was fascinated with the way his work epitomised the bohemian soul of Sydney.”

GEORGE BYRNE | HEAD ON PHOTO FESTIVAL 2017 | LANDSCAPE NSW AWARD WINNER

OLSEN Gallery would like to congratulate George Byrne as the winner of this year’s Head On Photo Festival’s Landscape NSW Award. Byrne’s winning photograph Murwillumbah #1 was taken whilst the artist was in residency on the far north coast of New South Wales in 2016.

“As an artist in residence in December 2016 at a hotel on Cabarita Beach on New South Wales’s far north coast. I was struck by the region’s raw beauty and moved by the spirituality of Mount Warning as an ancient epicentre of indigenous life. Here Mount Warning is depicted in a local mural near Murwillumbah.”

To read more about George Byrne’s practice, please follow this link to Feature Shoot’s latest article on the artist.

George Byrne will exhibit his work at Halcyon House as part of a pop-up show from May 19th-21st this year. Following that, it will travel to Olsen Annexe Gallery in Woollahra for two weeks. His exhibition New Order opens at OLSEN GRUIN in New York this summer. Follow along on Byrne’s Instagram for updates and Olsen Gallery’s website to view his available works.
