Stephen Bird | Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize

Last days to visit the Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize Exhibition including the work of Olsen Irwin artist Stephen Bird. Grab your swimmers and stop into the exhibition on your way down to Redleaf Pool, before the exhibition finishes up on Sunday 10 November 2013.

Of his entry ‘Paint Tray’ Bird says ‘I have this idea that everything I need to make art is right under my nose and I return to this hypothesis again and again. Paint Tray is a work where the artist tools and props can be said to be a substitute for the artist himself. I have used all the materials and techniques at my disposal to recreate the intimate world where the painter has spent many days, months and years. I indulge myself in all it’s filthy, painterly patina and reveal in its trviality. The punchline is when you discover it’s all just made of clay.’
