Julia Colavita
Hijacking tropes of
femininity, Colavita foregrounds dustings of eyeshadow, color blocks of
skin tone, rogue lashes and nails into new synthetic conglomerations
which take on a life of their own. Reckoning the visceral function of
nails, skins and lashes which serve to protect humans from the external,
these assemblages of pure materiality, absent of humans, usurp symbols
of body culture and turn them inside out.
