Luke Sciberras, the exuberant young painter from Hill End, straddles the divide between the past of this dusty artist's mecca and its future, reinventing its parched ochres into jazzy improvisations (Out of Town, 2007/08, left). In this exhibition he presents a series of his works on paper, sketches and etchings that reveal another side of the artist. The works show the same freedom, the familiar ease with their subject matter, and the same willingness to translate landscape into movable abstract motifs, but they seem to float free of the dense, clay-like texture of Sciberras's paintings.
