Erin Murphy is a Sydney-based painter. The foundation of her practice is the sampling of didactic images – pictures found in scientific literature, historical catalogues, and so forth, which claim to depict the most perfect or salient example of their subject. In rephrasing these images as paintings, their educational utility is lost, giving way to new information.
Murphy is a graduate of the National Art School, having completed her Master of Fine Arts in Painting in 2025. She has been a finalist in the National Emerging Art Prize, the Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarhsip, and the Sir John Sulman Prize.
