Jennifer Rosnell is an Australian born artist based on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. She studied Fine Arts at the University of New South Wales, with a focus on the figure and anatomy.
Her practice is grounded in life drawing working primarily in oil painting to explore coastal environments, swimmers, sunbathers, and portraiture. She is particularly interested in foreshortening of the figure and the way bodies sit within coastal space. Her work is defined by layered surfaces and a strong use of stripes as a graphic element, recurring across compositions.
Rosnell’s portrait practice has been recognised through repeated selection as a finalist in the Portia Geach Memorial Award, as well as the Percival Portrait Prize and the Mudgee Art Prize. She received the People’s Choice Award at the Mosman Art Prize 2022.
Her work is held in private and corporate holdings, including the Macquarie Group Art Collection.
