Toby Burrows
Toby Burrows is a Sydney-based photographer/ artist known for his arresting, often surreal imagery that blurs the lines between the constructed and the organic. At the heart of his practice is a belief in the power of simplicity, honesty, and curiosity — and a continual exploration of the unexpected.
He began his creative journey studying painting and photography at Sydney College of the Arts, before relocating to London where he worked in the photography industry amongst celebrated international photographers for the next decade. This experience deeply shaped his approach and visual style.
Since returning to Australia, Toby has built a diverse body of fine art and commissioned work, characterised by a strong narrative sensibility and a distinctive visual style. Toby has had numerous solo exhibitions both in Australia and internationally, most recently presenting his work at the renowned Sydney Contemporary art fair. His photography has been recognised with accolades including a New York Festival Gold, a World Press Award, One Show, International Colour Awards, and Black & White Spider Awards.
Toby works out of his studio in Marrickville, Sydney.
