Zoe Young is an Australian Painter. Two time Archibald Prize and Portia Geach finalist, Young is a rising talent. Trained at the National Art School in Sydney, Young graduated in Sculpture under Ron Robertson-Swanns, an apprentice of Henry Moore. Applying modernist sculpture techniques to portraiture and still life painting, Young creates works that, although nostalgic, domestic and unapologetically feminine in subject matter, works are built upon solid structural foundations that reveal picture planes that curve and block as sculpture does. Following Euan Uglows approach to making marks, the colour and tone, are mixed, considered and carved with conviction at the easel.

Since Graduating, Young has had two children, bringing structure, maturity and purpose to her practice.  Reg, a Gardener, brings a great deal of her subject matter to the studio - Zucchini’s, Plums and Magnolias, to name a few. The studio is kept warm by an Aga Stove and Young is currently bringing her mother's recipes back to life through painting. The drive to distil the beauty and essence of the moment is at the core of Young's intentions.
