The work of Charlie Sheard will be exhibited at the University of Newcastle's University Gallery. The upcoming exhibition, Pure Abstractions: Colour- Drawing- Materiality, features an overview of his work from 2007 to 2014 and will open on Saturday 26 April at 2pm and run until 17 May 2014. As an antidote to today?s materialistic focus, Sheard focuses his work on developing a language of purely abstract forms. This particular exhibition features a number of abstract painterly works, along with charcoal drawings that combine an extended syntax of bodily gesture and sensual energy, with a sensitive feeling for the material. These large scale works combine skillful technique coupled with complex optical effects and inspiring colour. Sheard will also be speaking at Conversations In Art at the University of Newcastle, room AT25 on Wednesday 7 May, 12-1pm. He will also be presenting a colour workshop in conjunction with the Pure Abstractions exhibition.
