Aaron Crothers is a Sydney-based sculptor, renowned for his bold geometric forms. Working primarily with large-scale ceramics, Crothers draws inspiration from twentieth century Brutalist architecture.

Each sculpture begins as a small plasticine maquette before being translated into a full-scale clay form. Once the clay reaches the leather-hard stage, the work is carefully cut apart, hollowed, and reassembled. This process of reassembly creates complex, multifaceted geometric interiors that cast dramatic shadows, reinforcing the work’s Brutalist aesthetic and emphasising the interplay between light, space, and structure. In this body of work, construction marks and scraped surfaces remain visible, emphasising the materiality of the clay and the physical process of making.
