John Olsen's retrospective, The You Beaut Country, currently on display at the National Gallery of Victoria will make its way to Sydney next year at the Art Gallery of New South Wales from 10 March - 12 June 2017. John Olsen: The You Beaut Country surveys the remarkable, seven decade long career of one of Australia?s most distinguished artists. Born in Newcastle in 1928, Olsen became widely known for his energetic and distinctive painting style and for his lyrical depictions of the landscape and its life-forms. The exhibition encompasses Olsen?s formative years in Sydney and Europe; and his return to Australia and development of a spectacular and idiosyncratic vision. It is the most comprehensive exhibition mounted on Olsen?s work, and includes paintings, ceramics, tapestries and works on paper, in loans from across Australia.
