Jonathan Delafield Cook | Crikey Daily Review

Patricia Anderson, one of Australia's foremost art critics, has reviewed Jonathan Delafield Cook's current exhibition of new drawings for Crikey's Daily Review. Anderson heralds a renaissance of realism, out from under the shadows of conceptual art and installation, and celebrates Jonathan Delafield Cook's work for being not just "a dazzling work of art" but also a meticulously crafted "forensic study". Of the 12 metre long charcoal on linen Sperm Whale II, Anderson describes, "The whole history of this sleek creature, a large-brained, long-living? predator with few natural enemies, is written like graffiti on his skin. The abrasions, the exfoliations, scars and ragged tail remind us that deep-sea adventures are not all plain sailing." - Patricia Anderson, Crikey The article can be read in it's entirety here.
