Chris Langlois - Points in Time
The work of contemporary landscape artist Chris Langlois is being celebrated with a major touring survey ‘Points in Time‘. The exhibition was developed by Gippsland Art Gallery and Manly Art Gallery and Museum and will tour 6 of Australia’s best regional galleries in 2013 and 2014. In this documentary, filmed for the exhibition, Langlois shares his thoughts on his work and the exhibition – giving insight into his concepts, working process and studio.

The Sky Still Breaks
The Sydney based painter is well known for his subject matter surrounding modern day masculinity. Using oils as if they were delicate watercolours, this new body of work emerged from a chance encounter with a scuba diver hunting for discarded longnecks that litter Sydney Harbour.

The King Sun: John Olsen, ABC
In March 2013, John Olsen, one of Australia’s greatest living artists,
embarked on the second largest mural of his career. He was 85 years old.
In The King Sun,
director Tony Williams and producer Anna Hewgill follow the progress of
John Olsen’s mural from the arrival of the 8 blank panels to the
transportation, delivery and installation of the giant painting in the
Collins Square development in Melbourne.
The film is a record of a
great Australian at work on possibly his final mural. It’s also an
uplifting exploration of a life in art, and a reflection on mortality,
optimism and happiness.
The filmmakers take us inside Olsen’s
Southern Highland home where Olsen opens up about the eastern
philosophies and techniques that have guided his practice, and we hear
from Olsen’s wife, son and daughter. John Olsen is in the autumn of his
life and in The King Sun he reflects on what he was like as a
younger man. We flash back to archival footage of John as a young,
vigorous and driven artist working on Salute to Five Bells, and winning the Archibald. And we see how much he has mellowed with time.

'Scuse me, but I've got a head of Christ here'. 'Right ho- just drop it outside,' says a cheerful Nic Fiddian-Green to the white-van man delivering an enormous sculpture. We are standing in his freezing- cold, rickety Surrey studio. "It's a converted sheep-shearing shed,' he tells me. "When I first moved in, there were rotting carcasses everywhere.' The face of God incarnate being delivered isn't the oddest thing that happens during our meeting. Gale-force winds are shaking the studio like the tornado in The Wizard of Oz; 25-foot-tall horses's heads are dotted around; and, at one point, the proceedings are interrupted by a vicar coming in to bless the space.

Painter, sculptor and installation artist Anthony Lister's art practice straddles two worlds. The first is the shadowy world of street art, of which he is an acknowledged master among those in the know. The second is that of London's white-cube art galleries, where he's regarded as one of the most sought-after young artists after being named among Australian Art Collector magazine's "Top 50 Most Collectable" list in 2010 and 2011. Originally from Brisbane, Lister grew up immersed in skateboard culture and, like his friend Banksy, he makes a point of leaving large-scale artworks in public spaces when he visits a city.

Paul Ryan is an Illawara based painter and sculptor. Born in New Zealand, Ryan migrated to Australia in 1973. He studied at Wollongong TAFE and at the University of Wollongong. Ryan has exhibited in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. He has been a finalist in numerous art prizes including ten times in the Archiblad Prize. Ryan has won a number of art prizes including the 2010 Paddington prize, 2012 Geelong Prize, and 2013 Bay of Fires Prize.
