Olsen Irwin is? thrilled to announce two recent public gallery acquisitions including the Art Gallery of South Australia?s purchase of the Stephen Bird ?The Surveyor? and Maitland Regional Gallery's acquisition of Paul Davies' ?One hour of Solstice Sunlight, as seven repeated mountain landscapes VI?.
"Painter and ceramicist Stephen Bird takes to the conventions of traditional English crockery and attending ideas about etiquette and formality with a joyous subversion. His subjects?including gruesome murder scenes, animal cruelty, dismembered body parts and sex?reveal a taste for the transgressive."

The Maitland Regional Gallery's impressive collection of artworks executed on paper will be further enhanced by the acquisition of a work from Paul Davies suite ?One hour of Solstice sunlight, as seven repeated mountain landscapes.? Davies created the series on site during a road trip earlier this year that took him through California, Arizona, Utah, Colorado and Nevada.? This work ?One hour of solstice sunlight? presents seven repeated mountain landscapes in varying hues recorded using stencils on photosensitive paper.? There is a pleasing irony in his use of the stencil, a tool to produce multiples, to create a highly personal reflection of his new surroundings.
