Tamara Dean | FotoLeggendo 2013, Rome

Tamara Dean's 'Only Human' series features in Rome's 'Aspettando FotoLeggendo Festival' from 10 October to 22 December 2013. The not for profit photography festival has been running for 10 years and is based at the 'Officine Fotografiche Roma', a multifunctioal 600 square metre space dedicated to exhibiting, teaching and supporting contemporary photography. Recently featured on 'The Weather Channel', Dean explained her photographic process whereby weather conditions play a major role. "When shooting in Australia, her favorite light is a narrow 10-minute window right around sunset." - Liz Burlingame, The Weather Channel. Another important factor in Dean's work is making her subject matter as comfortable as possible in order to capture a sincere moment. "The two most important things to keep in mind when taking a portrait of someone is firstly the light, and secondly, putting the person at ease by engaging them in conversation," Dean said. "From my experience, most people are uncomfortable in front of a camera and allowing them to think about something other than their appearance helps to distract them from self-consciousness." - The Weather Channel [caption id="attachment_1433" align="aligncenter" width="600"]Dean#7110 Tamara Dean, Ladies of the Canyon #2, 2011, Prints on archival cotton rag paper, 76 x 102cm, $4700[/caption]
