OLSEN Gallery is pleased to announce artist Tim Georgeson is a finalist in the 2026 Alice Prize!
His work, ‘The Believers, Untitled 1’, examines belief as an adaptive human technology once a collective system for survival, meaning, and cohesion, now fractured into something personal, fluid, and unstable. In a world marked by disconnection and uncertainty, faith no longer binds communities in shared ritual but emerges as an individual negotiation with the unknown.
Georgeson works with found material archival film stills and documentary photographs treating them as unstable source code. Through processes of re-editing, re-photographing, and layered visual interference, familiar images of devotion are dismantled and reconfigured. Faces blur, fragment, and dissolve into colour and light, shifting from specific identities into archetypes suspended between presence and disappearance.
Positioned between spirituality and spectacle, The Believers reflects on belief in an era where images are endlessly mutable and meaning is provisional. The work asks what, if anything, remains sacred when faith is no longer inherited, but continually rewritten.
The Alice Prize exhibition opens 28 March – 8 June, with the winner announced 27 March.
