Textile artist Natalie Miller

My subject matter is nature. I do a lot of hiking in the Southern Highlands where I live and have attempted to get to the base of every waterfall in the area. This piece represents the colours that I experienced on my adventure to the bottom of Carrington Falls, which has been the most challenging walk thus far. I use 100% Australian wool and dye all the wool myself, with natural dyes including Indigo, Cochineal, Saffron, Eucalyptus leaves and Madder. In my tapestry I like to weave movement and texture, making the wool sing. My experience in the valley is captured in the movement of the wool and the texture of the techniques of weaving.
